He’s convinced it’s not something he’ll ever have and has resigned himself to that fate. Because of all of David’s past traumas he has a lot of trouble seeing happiness as something he deserves. The push and pull between David and Jeremy was frustrating one moment and sweet as pie the next. Jo Crawford, David’s housekeeper, was amazing, I loved her character and the bond that she and Jeremy developed. For once in his life Jeremy was able to thrive and be himself just like the others in the house. He takes Jeremy to London and the two set up a uncomfortably comfortable homelife. Now a true bad guy would be fine with letting Jeremy swing for David’s crimes, but this is why David is a good bad guy, he can’t let that happen. One by one he breaks those rules and he is frustrated with himself but also powerless when it comes to Jeremy.ĭavid accidentally puts Jeremy in danger as his thieving goes awry during a house party where David is the guest and Jeremy is a servant. David is smitten with him from the start and finds himself breaking all the rules he has set in place for himself No getting involved with the help, no repeat trysts and no kissing. Jeremy Naylor is a footman (who hates being a footman) and he is as sweet as he is beautiful. He’s a jewel thief who has learned to model and mock the aristocracy while stealing their treasures and has made a comfortable life for himself and his fellow outcasts who have become his family. He’s had an incredibly rough childhood and has spent his adult life sticking it to the man with no apologies. It’s the kind of story I could get lost in and actually forget I was reading and look up to realize an hour or two had passed without me even realizing it.ĭavid Lambert is what I refer to as a “good bad guy”. The characters and story have so much depth and the writing flows beautifully. Ruby Moone is my go to these days for historical MM romance and I do believe Thief of Hearts is my favorite so far. #ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

I'm seriously hoping this is just the start of a new series. There wasn't a bit of this narrative I didn't like, even the villain is compelling and comes a bit out of left field. There's quite a few surprises in this story which all just added to my enjoyment overall and the romance at the heart of the story has a wonderful pathos which gives it a unique flavour.ĭavid and his Violet-Eyes are seriously hot and the terminology firmly places them right in the period - no cuming/coming here thanks but oh boy do they spend ) There's a fine raft of secondary characters who are integral to the plotting and I'd love to read more about David's housekeeper Mrs Crawford, as well as his aristocratic brother Charnley (who isn't as he first appears and who I might be a little bit in love with!)

When he encounters a violet-eyed footman during a house party, it sets off a series of events which rapidly turn into a delightful low key thriller with a spy element. The plot offers up a fine Georgian romp set shortly after the Battle of Trafalgar and focusing on the activities of David, a nobleman's bastard son as he fakes his way through London's hoi polloi. A good historical romance is among my top things to read and I loved this one from Ruby Moone.
